Simulation Coordinator

The Simulation Coordinator facilitates the operation of the Health Sciences Simulation Labs, oversees the preparation, maintenance, inventory, and operation of simulation equipment/supplies, and collaborates with faculty, including course development and outcomes, including design, planning, implementing, and scheduling simulation activities. The Simulation Coordinator ensures adherence to program policies, course objectives, program outcomes, and current simulation best practices and safety measures.

Primary Duties

  1. Work as part of the team to coordinate the students’ learning experiences through all semesters of the VN and ADN programs in lab/simulation.
  2. Facilitate simulation scenarios and student participation with debriefing sessions.
  3. Conduct debriefing within the scope of knowledge or assist the content expert with debriefing.
  4. Develop simulation curricula to support program and course outcomes.
  5. May teach a course load to include theory and/or clinical. Continually evaluate the results of teaching. Adjust methods of teaching or presentation to provide maximum educational opportunities for each student.
  6. Provide quality learning experiences for students and maintain the integrity of course standards and objectives. Meets classes punctually and keeps classes throughout the scheduled time as appropriate to provide quality learning experiences.
  7. Assist with curriculum development and implementation for nursing and health science programs.
  8. Assist/teach in the lab for skills check-off.
  9. Collaborate with other course faculty to identify at-risk students.
  10. Assisting with the remediation of lab/simulation skills. 
  11. Oversee and maintain the setup and take down of simulation laboratory equipment.
  12. Primary contact for scheduling the simulation experiences.
  13. Oversee and maintain the regular maintenance and repair of all simulation equipment.
  14. Communicate effectively with manufacturers regarding warranty, maintenance, repair, update, and technology changes. Coordinate upgrades to software and equipment as needed.
  15. Coordinate orientations and training for new faculty and staff in the simulation laboratory.
  16. Incorporate best practices and evidenced-based research in program development, focusing on standardization and efficiencies across the healthcare continuum.
  17. Participate in program and curriculum review.
  18. Coordinate with faculty what simulation is needed for weekly instruction.
  19. Coordinate and supervise the general operation of the simulation laboratory to provide a wide variety of patient simulation experiences.
  20. Communicate student needs to the primary instructor of the course and/or Director of Nursing.
  21. Coordinate clinical experiences with classroom theory, guiding students to apply nursing theory to patient care.
  22. Proctor exams as needed.
  23. Maintain a minimum of five consistent office hours per week during times convenient for students to assist them as needed. Be available by appointment for additional hours according to student needs. Post hours on the office door, clearly demonstrate availability and submit hours to your supervisor.
  24. Participate in program meetings and committees. Participate in college-wide meetings and committees.
  25. Be familiar with the approved requirements of the Texas Board of Nursing, the Nurse Practice Acts, and the accrediting processes of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
  26. Participate in the selection process when selecting a new cohort.
  27. Participate in program evaluations according to the program evaluation plan.        
  28. Attend all program, department, and general faculty meetings as requested and all scheduled graduations.
  29. Assist in decisions regarding student promotion and graduation.
  30. Maintain current CPR and required immunizations.
  31. Be conversant with the Cisco College faculty constitution and by-laws to ensure active participation and facilitation of the school’s goals and objectives.
  32. Complete all elements of the Faculty Evaluation Plan and work with the Director to establish professional goals.
  33. Perform all other duties as assigned.
  34. Advocate and provide motivation for students.
General
  1. Reports directly to the Director of Nursing.
  2. Meet regularly with the Department Director and faculty for input and feedback.
  3. Research resources for academic and skills remediation.
  4. Maintains communication with faculty and staff regarding student progress.
  5. Provides data pertinent to retention-attrition rates. Assisting with curriculum review and assessment of student learning outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Registered Nurse with current Texas Licensure.
  2. BSN required; MSN in Nursing Education preferred.
  3. Two years of varied nursing experience; actively employed in nursing for at least the past year, with experience in a hospital setting.
  4. Previous teaching experience is preferred.
  5. Demonstrated/proven ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Computer skills developed to analyze data of specific content matter.
